2017 Upcoming U.S. Launches

These are the upcoming manifest of the launches that are to take place in the 2017 calendar year.  The launches are according to Spaceflightnow.com, and as of January 13, 2017.  Dates are subject to change, and some flights do not have target dates yet.

 

SpaceX – Falcon 9 rocket – Iridium Next 1-10 satellites
Launch Date: January 14, 2017 @ 12:54:34 p.m. EST; 9:54:34 a.m. PST
Launch Site: SLC-4E, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California
Mission: Will deploy 10 satellites for the Iridium next mobile communications fleet.

Launch Date: January 19, 2017 / Launch Window: 7:46-8:26 p.m. EST
Launch Site:  SLC-41 Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida
Mission: SBIRS GEO 3 – early-warning missile detection

 

3. Space X – Falcon 9 EchoStar 23
Launch Date: NET: January 26, 2017 / Launch Window: approx. 12:00 – 2:30 a.m. EST
Launch Site: LC-39A, Kennedy Space Center, Florida
Mission: First launch from old Space Shuttle launch pad 39A since July 8, 2011.  Deploy the EchoStar communications satellite over Brazil.

 

4. ULA – Atlas 5 (AV-068) 401 NROL-79
Launch Date: January 26, 2017 / Launch Window: 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. EST/ 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. PST
Launch Site: SLC-3E, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California
Mission: Classified payload for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office.

 

5. SpaceX – Falcon 9  CRS-10
Launch Date: February 8, 2017 / Launch Window: 1:55 p.m. EST
Launch Site: LC-39A, Kennedy Space Center, Florida
Mission: 10th operational cargo delivery mission to the International Space Station.

 

6. SpaceX – Falcon 9 – Formosat 5 & Sherpa
Launch Date: TBD
Launch Window: TBD
Launch Site: SLC-4E, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California
Mission: Launch the Formosat 5 for Taiwan’s National Space Organization (NSPO) and the Sherpa deployer from Spaceflight Industries carrying approximately 90 small payload and CubeSats from a variety of scientific and commercial customers.

 

7. Space X – Falcon 9 – SES 10

Launch Site: LC-39A, Kennedy Space Center, Florida
Mission: Deploy SES 10 communication satellite that will provide direct-to-home TV broadcasting and other telecommunication services for Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America.  It will also cover Brazil and support offshore oil and gas exploration.

 

8. Space X – Falcon 9 – Iridium Next 11-20

Mission: Deploy the next 10 satellites for the Iridium Next mobile communications fleet.

9. SpaceX – Falcon 9 – Koreasat 5A

Mission: Deploy the Koreasat 5A communications satellite for KTsat based in South Korea.  Provide direct-to-home television broadcast and other communications services over Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Guam, Indochina, and South Asia.

10. ULA – Delta 4 – WGS 9

Launch Window: 6:35 – 8:36 p.m. EST
Launch Site: SLC-37B, Cape Canaveral Air Force Base, Florida
Mission: Deploy WGS 9 communications spacecraft that will serve U.S. militar forces.

11. ULA – Atlas 5 (AV-070) 401 – OA-7
Launch Date: March 16
Launch Window: 12:29-12:59 a.m. EDT
Launch Site: SLC-41, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida
Mission: Will launch the 8th Cygnus cargo freighter on the seventh operational cargo delivery flight to the International Space Station.

12. SpaceX – Falcon 9 – CRS 11

Mission: Launch the 13th Dragon spacecraft on the 11th operational cargo delivery mission to the International Space Station.

13. SpaceX – Falcon 9 – SES 11/EchoStar 105

Launch Site: Cape Canaveral, Florida
Mission: Launch the SES-11/EchoStar 105 hybrid communications satellite to replace the AMC-15 and AMC-18 satellites.  Will market the Ku-Band transponder capability, with coverage of the 50 U.S. states, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.

14. SpaceX – Falcon Heavy – Demo Flight

Mission: A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket will launch on its first demonstration flight.

15. ULA – Atlas 5 – 531 – AEHF 4

Mission: Deploy the 4th Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) satellite.  U.S. military spacecraft will provide highly-secure communications.

Mission: Launch sixth SkySat Earth observation satellites for Google/Skybox Imaging.

Mission: Launch the 14th Dragon spacecraft on the 12th operational cargo delivery mission for NASA to the International Space Station.

Mission: Launch classified spacecraft payload for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office.

Mission: Air launched Orbital ATK Pegasus XL rocket will deploy NASA’s Ionospheric Connection Explorer (ICON) satellite.  ICON will study disturbances in the ionosphere triggered by solar storms or weather activity in the lower atmosphere can cause disturbances in GPS navigation and radio transmissions,

20. Orbita ATK – Antares 230 – OA-8

Mission: Will deploy the ninth Cygnus cargo freighter on the eighth operational cargo delivery flight for NASA to the International Space Station.

Mission: Launch the ORS 5 mission for the U.S. military’s Operationally Responsive Space program.  Designed to scan for other satellites and debris to aid the U.S. military’s tracking of objects in geosynchronous orbit.

Mission: Launch the U.S. Air Force’s Space Test Program-2 mission with a cluster of military and scientific research satellites.

23. ULA – Atlas V 401 (AV-075) – TDRS M
Launch Date: August 3

Launch Site: SLC-41, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida
Mission: Launch NASA’s Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS M).  TDRSS connects mission control with the International Space Station and other orbiting satellites and future NASA and commercial vehicles.

24. SpaceX – Falcon 9 – Crew Dragon Demo 1

Mission: Launch the Crew Dragon spacecraft on an uncrewed test flight to the International Space Station under the auspices of NASA’s commercial crew program.

Mission: Launch a classified spacecraft payload for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office.

Mission: Launch the 15th Dragon spacecraft on the 13gh operational cargo delivery mission to the International Space Station.  The flight is being conducted under the Commercial Resupply Services contract with NASA.

Launch Site: SLC-2W, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California
Mission: Launch the first spacecraft in the Joint Polar Satellite System, NOAA’s next generation series of polar-orbiting weather observatories.

28. ULA – Delta 4 (5,2) – NROL-47

Mission: Launch a classified spacecraft payload of the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office.

Mission: Launch the U.S. military’s fourth Space Based Infrared System Geosynchronous satellite, or SBIRS GEO 4, for missile early-warning detection.

Mission: Launch the 10th Cygnus cargo freighter on the ninth operational cargo delivery flight to the International Space Station.

Mission: To launch the AFSPC 11 mission for the U.S. Air Force.

32. ULA – Delta 4 (4,2) – GPS 3-01

Launch Site: SLC-37B, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida
Mission: Launch the U.S. Air Force’s first third-generation navigation satellite for the Global Positioning System (GPS).

 

With the United States attempting to launch 32 flights this year, it should be a very busy and ambitious year.
