Nintendo April Update

Nintendo had another Nintendo Direct this past week, providing more info on ARMS and Splatoon 2, info on new games and release dates for previously announced games. Also news about NES Classic and Nintendo sales for the month of March.

NES Classic

Nintendo of America is discontinuing the NES Classic in the United States. Launching last November, NES Classic came with 30 games and retailed for $59.99. Unfortunately very few were in stock so they sold out quickly.

Official Statement from Nintendo:
“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.” (source: IGN)

April Sales

Switch

The Nintendo Switch sold over 906,000 units in the U.S. this past March. It is the fastest selling console in Nintendo’s history. The Switch topped the PS4 (2nd), and the Xbox One (3rd). (source: Gamerevolution)

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The latest addition in the Legend of Zelda franchise has sold over 925,000 units of the Switch version of the game in the U.S. (1.3 million including the WiiU version), outselling the Switch itself. This marks Breath of the Wild as the fastest launch title in Nintendo history. (source: Polygon) It’s also the fastest selling Zelda in the entire series. (source: Gamespot) This isn’t too surprising as it has been the most highly anticipated Nintendo game in years and one of the highest rated.
