Information on Kim Jong-un’s early life is a very top secret thing. Kim Jong-chul, who attended school in Switzerland may be possible insight on Kim Jong-un possibly attending as well. There is no proof though. Some report a birthday of January 8th, 1982, but South Korean intelligence officials believe the actual date is a year later. Former basketball player Dennis Rodman said that the birth-date is January 8th, 1983 after meeting Kim in September 2013 in North Korea.
Kim Jong-Un was the second of three children Ko Yong-hui bore to Kim Jong-il; his elder brother Kim Jong-chul was born in 1981, while his younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, is believed to have been born in 1987. He was described as shy, a good student who got along well with his classmates and was a basketball fan. He was chaperoned by an older student, who was thought to be his bodyguard.
For many years, only one confirmed photograph of him was known to exist outside North Korea, apparently taken in the mid-1990s, when he was eleven.
The first official image of him as an adult was a group photograph released in September of 2010 at the party conference in which he is seated two places from his father. There was also footage of him attending the conference.
The reason Kim Jong-un’s half-brother Kim Jong-nam (who was favorited to take the throne) did not succeed is because in 2001 he tried going to the Disneyland in Japan with a fake passport. After being caught, he lost the favoritism blessing. He was killed this year by suspected agents under direction of North Korea.
In June of 2009, Kim visited China to talk himself up to the Chinese leadership, who later learned against North Korea in conducting another nuclear test. The Chinese have avoided validating this visit happened.
His mother was thought to be his fathers’ favorite wife, and she clearly loved her Kim, reportedly calling him the “Morning Star King”. A Japanese chef writing under the name Kenji Fujimoto also claimed that Kim Jong-un was his father’s favorite.
Speculation says he may have had plastic surgery to enhance the resemblance to his father’s Kim-like face. His first speech was given on April 15th, 2012, as North Korea marked the hundredth anniversary of Kim Il-sung. The speech consisted mostly of praising the military first and stating that his nation could not ever be threatened ever again. “Superiority in military technology is no longer monopolized by imperialists,” he said, adding: “We have to make every effort to reinforce the people’s armed forces.”
In 2015, a statement declared that Kim has executed over 70 officials since coming to power in 2011. Also in 2015, Kim claims North Korea has added the hydrogen bomb to its nuclear arsenal. On December 29th of 2016, a South Korean think-tank reports Kim has executed 340 people to help keep his power. And, at the beginning of 2017 Kim Jong-un was really pumped up about using intercontinental nuclear missiles.
And as of now, there may have been an attempt to assassinate Kim, but instead the U.S. and South Korea are considered terrorists by Jong-un. He seems angry and possibly trigger happy. I guess we’ll see what next week or month brings. But as far as Kim Jong-un’s 5 year plan or biggest goal(s) go, I really do not know…
